The work in my concentration demonstrates my exploration of the duality of creation and destruction of the natural elements. Some pieces discuss the impact of these processes on both nature and humanity while others emphasize just the natural impact, showing the distinct contrast of the effects of creation and destruction. Pieces 1-3 demonstrate the duality of the element of earth; Piece 2 shows the creation and destruction of the earth by humanity through the idea of our national parks and the destruction they have done to the nature there. Piece 3 shows the destruction of the earth through a seismograph while also showing flowers and plants as a force of creation. Pieces 4-6 demonstrate air. Piece 5 shows the destruction of air by means of a broken weathervane. Pieces 7-9 show the duality of fire. Piece 8 discusses censorship and how fire can be a destructive force to both nature and humanity. Pieces 10-12 show the duality of how water is an element of creation and destruction. Piece 12 demonstrates the duality of water - destroying a building while fish swim upstream, symbolizing the destruction of man and the creation of life. Pieces 1, 4, 7, and 10 all share a common theme involving symmetry of the alchemical symbols for the natural elements.
